Week 31 Recap

Laying Rep. John Lewis to Rest

John Lewis was buried yesterday. Here we will quote the speech given by former President Obama:

“America was built by John Lewises. He as much as anyone in our history brought this country a little bit closer to our highest ideals.” […]

“And yet, as exceptional as John was, here’s the thing: John never believed that what he did was more than any citizen of this country can do.” […]

“What a radical ideal. What a revolutionary notion. This idea that any of us, ordinary people, a young kid from Troy can stand up to the powers and principalities and say no this isn’t right, this isn’t true, this isn’t just. We can do better. “ (1)

Keep fighting. Stay strong. Be brave. We have a long way to go but we will not rest until American’s live in equal freedom and power. Not until black lives matter. Rest in power, John Lewis.

Federal Agents

As agreements are made to withdraw feds from Portland,  disturbing videos are surfacing in New York (2). This video shows kidnapping similar to tactics used by Portland agents (3). It turns out the action was carried out by NYPD.

The Case that Started the BLM Movement

Missouri prosecutor will not bring officer Wilson to justice in the murder of Michael Brown, devastating the Brown family and millions across the country (4).

Is the Election Still on November 3rd?

Yes. President Trump Tweeted about delaying the election due to fraud of mail-in voting, but that is not in his control (5). Furthermore, Democrats and Republicans alike did not defend or agree with his statement (6).

If you need to register, make sure you’re registered, or request an absentee/mail-in ballot, you can go to this website: https://www.votesaveamerica.com/everylastvote/. You do not even need access to a printer to request a ballot, and it will take you less than 5 minutes to do!

Flatten the Mail-In Curve

With COVID-19, the idea was to spread out infections over a longer period to allow hospitals to keep up with the number of infections. In the case of voting, if votes are spread over a longer time period, post offices will not be over capacity.

Request your ballot and vote as far ahead of schedule as possible (right now would be great). To ensure your vote is counted, mail in your ballot at a minimum of two weeks before your states deadline.

Global Food Crisis

Today, Science posted an article stating that labor shortages and export shortages are severely effecting food access and availability. The pandemic could become a global food crisis if policy isn’t enacted to prevent it (7).

Billionaire’s in America

This past economic quarter was the worst the U.S. has ever seen as small businesses go out of business and 11.1% of U.S. citizens are unemployed (8). But, billionaire’s like Zuckerberg and Musk are turning huge profits (9).

One Last Thing…
